Apartment 2c is coming Tuesday Feb 2nd, 7:30 pm PST! Join us for our weekly live hour-long show revisiting the entire series of We’re Alive. We’ll be featuring behind the scenes moments, cut material from the show, interviews with the cast and crew, contests, prizes, and more. There might even be hints or clues regarding upcoming projects. Each live-stream is going to be roughly an hour long and feature one episode of We’re Alive.

It’s been a rough time getting this off the ground. We’ve been experimenting, trying to find the best way to execute a live show that had all the elements that we wanted in it and to help attract a whole new audience to this great series. At our first studio location we’d have to collapse the set each week since the place is used all the time. We gave it a go for a week or two, but the practicality of setting up everything week after week didn’t lend itself to what we were envisioning. The more time spent setting up, the less time dedicated to the content of the show.

Our first test broadcast:

There was also an element of technology that needed to be figured out. We ended up going the extra mile in terms of the technology behind making this all run, and it’s pretty awesome. A three-camera HD studio streaming setup can be done on a budget nowadays and we took full advantage of that.

Finding a place that would work for what we wanted, was a bit difficult. The main problem that we were having was few locations had fast enough internet to allow us to stream in HD. The first commercial spot we looked at barely had 1 MB upload. I guess most businesses don’t send large data packages any more. Each possibility took a long time to check out, and make numerous calls to different internet providers to see what would work. One in particular would work, only it would require Time Warner to build a new internet box and charge us $300 a month (year long contract required) for data rates that are far less than what I have at my house.

Our first possible location, alas, the internet wasn't good enough.

Then, we found it. Our perfect spot. It was upstairs off a main street, pretty quiet, and the internet was just above our requirement for broadcasting. So far we’ve built the set, and started to get into our routine of streaming. There’s going to be a bit of a learning curve as we iron out the kinks of the show, but it’s going to be so much fun that we’re hoping you don’t don’t mind them.

We’ve been doing a lot of test broadcasts along the way, figuring out all the tech details, and our last one went very well. We’ll be doing another dress tonight (January 26, 2016) as well, at 7:30 PST, which will be our normal time slot. Looking forward to seeing and interacting with you!
