This is a passion project of director/writer/producer Kc Wayland who is an Army combat veteran

who has pioneered a new form of the aural medium entitled “Theater for the Mind,” which uses

advanced sound recording and editing techniques to place the audience in the center of the

action of the story.

His series “We’re Alive” currently has over 60 million downloads worldwide and one of the highest

rated series on iTunes.

SYNOPSIS:

A male struggles to leave his home, surrounded by the multitude of obstacles that stand in his

way. Each object in his life speaks to him and either entice him to stay, or present arguments for

why he needs to leave. The story can exist only through audio, through the vocalization and

personification of the struggle for this person to brave the world and take a bold step forward for

themselves.

CHARACTERS:

[CLOCK ]19 to 70 years old, all ethnicities male or female.

The keeper of the time. A persnickety yet insistent voice in the Boy’s ear, always pushing him to

move forward and his life. A constant reminder that the Boy is letting his life slip by. Not

unsympathetic, but implacably serving its purpose marking the seconds and minutes which the

Boy wastes on TV and Internet.

[CAT ]19 to 70 years old, all ethnicities male or female.

Felix, the self-obsessed pet of the Boy. Primarily focused on its own pleasures, often at the

expense of others such as the Couch. Enjoys stirring up the conflict between the various

appliances. Cares for its owner, but the Cat looks out for Number One first and foremost.

[DOOR ]19 to 70 years old, all ethnicities male or female.

The barrier between the Boy and real life. While encouraging towards the Boy to open it and go

outside, also clear-eyed about the potential dangers. It is both supporter and warner, serving its

purpose either way.

[PHONE ]19 to 70 years old, all ethnicities male or female.

The tool the Boy is supposed to use to contact the outside world, but much to its distress, is

mostly used for games and internet. Very frustrated over what it sees as a perversion of its

primary purpose. Encouraging and supportive towards the Boy.

[FAN ]19 to 70 years old, all ethnicities male or female.

Always blowing hot air, but supportive of its master. Good-natured, a little out of it.

[COUCH ]19 to 70 years old, all ethnicities male or female.

Just wants to serve its purpose by helping the Boy relax, even if that means giving him over to the

pleasures of TV, the Internet, and the Game. Generally friendly, except towards the Cat.

[TV ]19 to 70 years old, all ethnicities male or female.

An over-the-top crowdpleaser. Hugely dramatic, determined to keep the Boy watching no matter

what. Has a contentious relationship with some of the other appliances. A charmer with a dark

side.

[FRIDGE ]19 to 70 years old, all ethnicities male or female.

Wants to keep its master healthy. A little obsessed with what the heck the thing in the back used

to be, before it started growing mold.

[INTERNET ]19 to 70 years old, all ethnicities male or female.

Sleazy, addictive, charming. While not actively evil, manipulative and determined to serve its

purpose by keeping the Boy hooked on its pleasures. Determined to drown out the other voices in

the Boy’s life, and actively fighting the Clock’s influence to try to get the Boy out of his rut.

Story line: A male struggles to leave his home, surrounded by the multitude of obstacles that

stand in his way. Each object in his life speaks to him and either entice him to stay, or present

arguments for why he needs to leave. The story can exist only through audio, through the

vocalization and personification of the struggle for this person to brave the world and take a bold

step forward for themselves.
